But even Brucey is hedging his bet ("There are some concerns in the Division III community about the changes to the calendar to accommodate the championship game shift, Delventhal said. - “That doesn’t mean it’s still not a good idea and worth trying,” he said.").

Germane Questions:
1) Will the D3 game be part of the D1 ticket package?
2) How will the NESCAC (et al) accept the now 15% longer season?
3) Will the D1 fans care enough to even attend the D3 game?
4) Will the 4 week NCAA playoff timetable for 10 total games dilute the intensity?

We'll all care if the NESCAC pulls out and we lose 10 teams toward the national tournament ratio. If the NESCAC pulls out, the tournament goes from 11 teams to 9 teams if they abide by the 6.5 ratio.

For the rest of DIII, what matters is the loss of "padding" for the Pool C slots. If the NESCAC leaves, of course we could expect to lose their Pool A slot - the fact that they would also take a Pool C slot with them is what would hurt. Lets see: 72 DIII teams now - if we lost 10 that would be 62 - 62/6.5 = 9.54. It should be just barely enough to leave it at 10 teams (this is the way they have been calculating lately, although they used to do it the other way around, and not round). If that's correct the only thing that is lost is the Pool A spot reserved for Muffy and Trevor.

Semis on Campus - Home teams will love it, tickets, hotels and travel for visitors on short notice not so much....
D3 Championship game in between D1 semis and finals - tickets and hotels and travel for both teams on short notice will be $$$$$. Championship game on a real (cable) television network - don't think so (maybe taped delayed, middle of the night, in between infomercials).
Academically the D3 season is perfect just the way it is - the kids have 2 months to get used to classes before the season starts and 2 months to pick up
the slack after the season ends and before exams. Leave it the way it is now !
