Not likely. The only NCAA player on the 1968 Canadian team was Marshall Johnston, who had already been playing for the Canadian national team since 1963. No way Dryden would have had a chance to make the team - certainly not enough of a shot to decide to take a leave of absence in the summer of 1967.
If you don't change the world today, how can it be any better tomorrow?

If he wasn't good enough, then he wasn't good enough.

The reason for the talent in the west? Because MN didn't rely on Canada.

In 1973, John Danby and Ric Jordan were members of the WHA's first AVCO Cup champs, the Whalers, a year after completing back-to-back NCAA titles at BU. Jack Kelley, who'd coached the BU title teams, also was GM/head coach of the Whalers. Hardly the same as NCAA title to Stanley Cup, but a significant achievement just the same.

I also believe he's the only guy to ever fight Wayne Gretzky

He didn't win a DI NCAA, BG won it '84 after he was long in the pros.

Morrow won gold, cup, cup, cup, cup... Five straight championships. And yes he was knocked out in the NCAA tournament the two years before joined the us Olympic team... Yup.

Just adding a name (about as relavent as Dryden in this discussion )

I'm trying to find some other winners of that trifecta, some came close:
Chris Chelios (no gold medal, but won the silver)
Brooks Orpik (no gold medal, but won the silver)

I stopped when I finally found one:
Ed Belfour - National Champions with UND in 1987, Stanley Cup with Dallas in 1999 and Olympic Gold with Canada in 2002
Chris Drury did NCAA, SC, and Olympic Silver. Also had a HS State and Little League World Series Championship.

He won 2 Olympic Silver Medals...plus a Hobey and the Calder. Once again, not too shabby.

BSU alum Joel Otto has a NCAA Title (1984), Stanley Cup (1989) and a World Cup Championship (1996). He was also a Hobey Baker finalist. Not bad for a D-II Alum.

Re: NCAA and Stanley Cup championships?

So will any college player get the NCAA equivalent of Scott Niedermeyer's Stanley Cup, Gold Medal, World Championship, World Junior Championship, World Cup, and Memorial Cup (obviously replacing Memorial Cup with NCAA title)?

What about New York Islanders Asst Coach Doug Weight? No, wait. I believe he left LSSU early, a year before their NCAA title
