I don't even think Grillo was a fan of Grillo.

(I've heard he's a nice guy, but as a coach? Yikes)

Scott Ford signs a two-way contract with St. Louis Blues. I hope this is his opportunity to make the NHL.

I was actually just thinking about him, and his thundering slap shot, a couple days ago. Good for him. Although it's unfortunate he's joining the best defensive team in the league, because he probably won't see much NHL action.

Wow...seven 4:00 PM games! I'm guessing this is a big experiment, and future scheduling will be based off the success, or lack thereof, of the 4:00 games.

For those of us who travel to Meehan, 4pm starts are great. It is a lot better being on the Mass Pike in the early evening than late at night and even allows for dinner on Thayer St after the game.

Bruno: Any specific reason for the 4pm games given?

Yeah, I like it too, and I don't even have to travel. But it should help draw more students since nothing of importance happens on Saturday afternoons (parties, events, etc.) and hopefully more local families with hockey-playing kids.

No specific reason announced. But it's clear that the isolated 4:00 p.m. games in the recent past have produced far greater attendance by family and student groups than most games scheduled for the customary 7:00 p.m. start.

It's likely that there's a split opinion over Saturday afternoon games by the traveling teams. Either they appreciate the opportunity to get on the road following an early game in order to arrive back on their campus at a reasonable hour, or they prefer the additional rest a 7:00 p.m. game provides following a Friday nite contest and the ensuing travel to their Saturday night game destination.

I agree with kdiff77's analysis: "I'm guessing this is a big experiment, and future scheduling will be based off the success, or lack thereof, of the 4:00 games."

You make a good point about opposing teams. When scheduling games to start at other than the typical 7pm times of ECAC games, does the opposing team have any input?

I've alerted Brendan to the fact that the inauguration of Brown's 19th President, Dr. Christina Paxson, is scheduled for Saturday, October 27, and that traditionally Meehan Auditorium has been used for a celebratory concert during inauguration weekend or the main ceremony itself. I hope arrangements for a different venue have been made this time since the inauguration falls during hockey season, but Brown doesn't have any indoor space with as large a capacity as Meehan.

Ruth Simmons' inauguration was held during Columbus Day weekend, with a series of performances on Saturday evening at Meehan and the main ceremony on the Green on Sunday afternoon. Gordon Gee didn't have a formal inauguration. Vartan Gregorian's inauguration was held in Meehan Auditorium on a Sunday afternoon in April 1989, and also included a series of performances the night before and a concert on Sunday evening, which were also held in Meehan.

I say let her drop the puck, grab a seat behind the bench, and support the team. She can have her inauguration after the game!
