Anyone know the last college player to win an NCAA title and a Stanley Cup in the same year?

I know I would like to say thank you. A big thank you to all those posters who read Kenny's post and responded before me. Bravo. Nothing else needs to be said about it.

That article doesn't say that though. In fact, it claims that Farkas was the only other player besides Hrkac and Kreider to play in the last NCAA game and then make the playoffs. Unfortunately for the accuracy of that article, Neal Broten played in the NCAA Title game in 1981, and then played in the Stanley Cup Finals for the North Stars in '81. I haven't researched everything, but Broten is very likely the only player to play in the last game of both the NCAA and NHL seasons.

The national broadcast last night was essentially a BC recruiting piece.

First Doc absolutely loves York and gives him a shoutout at every opportunity. They couldn't stop gushing about Kreider, Pierre called him maybe the fastest player in the league already.

Eddie O talked about how much he was able to see Kreider this year through NBC sports, it turned to Doc talking about "legendary Jerry York" and Pierre finished by talking about the amazing assts Brown, Cav, & Logue.

The entire NHL playoffs have been a BC recruiting piece - hard to imagine any other school getting the amount of talking time BC has received or having so many key storylines in this first round. It's pretty ridiculous how many guys have been talking points.

                              - Kreider jumps right into the NHL from his junior year and gets the GWG the other night.
                              - Boyle was a central figure in the series, including his shot from Chris Neil.
                              - Steve Gionta emerges from nowhere and has 2 playoff goals.
                              - Scott Clemmensen gave Theodore a run for his money and played quite well.
                              - Schneider comes in and shines in relief of Roberto Luongo and now has created a massive goaltending contraversy in Vancouver.

If Gionta's goal last night was able to stand as the gamewinner (it didn't), I think you would have had 3 different BC guys with GWGs in the first round (Boyle, Kreider, Gionta).

Last year was pretty interesting as well with Ferriero and Smith getting OT gamewinners.

The other night I believe Doc said there are currently 21 former Eagles playing in the NHL. I'm not sure how accurate that is but either way it's very impressive.
